10 spoke valve stems

trying to find what valve stems were used on original 10 spokes. I believe they were rubber and are the larger .625 hole but wheel section is too thick for standard rubber stems

I don't know if the 1966 ten spokes are the same hole dia. and wheel thickness of the 1967 ten spoke wheel. If they are this is what I know about them ( 1967 ). I believe they were rubber also. I don't have a bare wheel here right now to measure the hole diameter. I use the .453"hole size rubber valves. They are about .590" nominal dia. where the wheel passes through on the valve.  Lube the snot out of them and pull hard and stretch them. I have broken one or two of them doing this. I have not seen of or know of rubber valve that accommodates the wheel thickness of the ten spoke wheel (1967) correctly. Would be nice to know what they used back in the day for sure. Sorry I can't help anymore than that.

I had the same question with stems for my original '66 10 spokes. The top rubber ring on the stem will pull out above the wheel flange and lock in, just pull hard with soapy water. I too, tore a couple. I researched looking to find an oddball size stem that might have been around in the 60's, but no luck. I asked the same question as you on the "old" forum and never got an answer.

That's the issue. I tried standard .625 stems and they just aren't made for thicker wheel. They will actually pull through before they seat

My experience is with the 15" but I gave up on the rubber stems 30 years ago as unreliable and use the solid metal stems with the rubber washers and the nut on the outside of the wheel.

It may not be original but you aren't going to have a phantom flat at a rest stop along the way.

I don't know if you would want to try/risk counter boring the inside of the wheel in the valve area to reduce the wheel thickness? Just a thought.

 Thanks Jim. I've been checking online on truck valvestems but haven't come up with anything yet. I may take a ride to a local tire store

I thought of that but would much rather not modify an original wheel if I don't have to

I don't know how you got 415 to stay in that wheel. I've tried and they don't lock in.
