Downey Ford summer of 1967

Cobra Ned

Downey Ford only got one new 427 Cobra, and it was 3265. It arrived at the dealership in the fall of '66 and supposedly went unsold well into '67. At some point it was transferred to a dealer in TX, and it was finally sold through them in 8/67. Since we don't know the exact date the car left Downey, that might be it in the "summer of '67." 3265 was red and the car in the photo appears as if it could be red as well.

Are the silver gravel guards a good clue?

Maybe reflections from the low angle of the sun?

More than likely the photo was taken in 66, that's a Galaxie next to it, and it's a 66

I think that Galaxie is outside, not in the showroom.

Correct , that "end" of the showroom was glass on three sides. The Galaxie and the F100 were "outside". as you suggest. I went by many times to see what they had.

Ned , I'm sliding off topic but IIRC Theodore Robbins in Costa Mesa ( also local to me) had three Series 3000 cars and two took a couple of years to sell. ( like '68 or 9) . At least one was a 428. Do you know those car numbers.
    TIA,

Just for reference of the building,  here's a pic I have in my files, I think this is one of those shots that was used in high school year

books. Odd that they would show the car with out wheel discs  ::)

Downey is advertising 69's.  So either the 68 vert is a trade-in or took a while to sell.

Nice vintage photo with two babe's sitting in it ;D

98SVT - was 06GT

It's a 67 Mustang in the lower right corner.

Back then you couldn't park the car for more then five minutes without someone stealing the hubcaps. Had mine stolen three times and one time the idiots used an impact wrench to try to get them off.

They couldn't figure out they were just hubcaps?

Downey was still "safe" in '67. Middle class , safe to walk the streets. Sachs and Sons L/M was across the street and Yeakle Bros Chrysler Plymouth was next to Downey Ford The oldest "original" McDonald's location is right down the street too.
