Check under the bottom side of the cowl.. a/c 71 cars had no provision under the drivers side cowl for a vent/hat assembly it was just flat sheet metal .  If you see a cowl vent or it’s capped off it was born a heat only car.
Lots of cars had factory style a/c added during restoration.. I did it to our kr convert back in the 80’s

Here's another ARA AC installation, identified by the koo-koo clock.

I've seen cars over the years with the "external" dash mounted clocks and always wondered what that was about.  Is that to provide room for A.R.A. a/c equipment behind the dash?  I don't see any a/c vents?? Thanks.

It is for AC clearance

Maybe Ed can explain the lack of vents?

Wow - I have never seen those external clocks before.

Extremely awkward looking.

ARA said they'd put A/C in any car. They didn't say anything about vents.  ;D

That yellow car must have had the dash pad changed out as it should have vent in the center.  While working on the 1970 gt500 GG scj vert we had here it had the black plastic clock extension like all ara a/c  cars had and had to be done for clearance to install that type of a/c unit.  It also had the map light setup and the glove box light switch wiring all removed to install this ara system and thats why the clock also had to be moved outward .
