Several years ago there was a wreck I believe at Indy where the front of the car was gone and the driver's feet were out on the track sliding long surface after the collision and he survived so it is possible to make it through a wreck like that.

If it starts it's streetable.
Overkill is just enough.

The wreck that I am thinking of probably happened in the 1990s or  Possibly in the 2000s

That section of Wilshire is popular with idiots. There is a pretty good section of no lights where it passes a golf course. Then a gentle uphill left. If one of the other cars was pulling out of a driveway there isn't a lot of reaction time or room.

Is that the road Jeff Bridges (Porsche) and James Woods (Ferrari) raced each other in the movie Against all Odds?

Edit; Race shown in this trailer;

The place where the car chase took place was on Sunset Boulevard in the western area of Los Angeles County. Specifically, the area covered West Sunset Boulevard between Roxbury Drive and South Beverly Glen Boulevard and along Holmby Hills. The production shut down this stretch of the boulevard at fifteen minute intervals for filming of the exciting car race with the two sports cars.

According to The '80s Movies Rewind website, "the black Ferrari 308 and red Porsche in the film's famous chase scene were specially modified vehicles from Customs By Eddie Paul in El Segundo, CA [California, USA]. The cars were modified for high-speed driving with special onboard camera mounts".

Side-Oilers

Never heard the Eddie Paul connection with this movie (not to say he wasn't involved)  but he did do several TV cars, over the years.

We used to go to his shop, in the '80s, to get a magazine project car painted, and to see what he had in the works.
Current:
2006 FGT, Tungsten. Whipple, HRE 20s, Ohlin coil-overs. Top Speed Certified 210.7 mph.

Kirkham Cobra 427.  482-inch aluminum side-oiler. Tremec 5-spd.

1970 Ranchero GT 429

I didn't know (or remember?) he had passed away. He did a lot of cars. My favorite was the Merc. https://www.hotrodhotline.com/ode-eddie-paul

Looked it up on the map you linked. Look like the two roads run parallel to each other for quite a distance. Maybe a mile apart?

That poor Ford GT.  It couldn't protect itself against its captor and was driven toward its destruction.  I feel bad for the GT, I mean the people.  Not too worried about the GT driver and/ or passenger because they were smart enough to be driving a Ford.  They should be fine.

Addendum:  Found a Youtube vid of the crash.  Looks far worse for the other car which appears to have also been a "Sport" car to use Shelby's terminology.

Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"
