I delved into it a little more.  Will be set back in the early 1980s.  I suspect they will continue to use a Plymouth as that was the car used in the book except the book Plymouth was a 4 door.  Don't know what King was thinking re a 4 door.  Simply two doors too far away from being cool.  The special effects will undoubtedly be better.  I am enthused they are doing a remake.  I will see it.

The original movie is set in 1978. So if the movie is set in the 1980's the car would need to be from the 1960's.

Maybe a Corvair could come out of a barn, get restored and then kill Ralph Nader in the finale before exploding into flames, then reappear as a Smart electric Fortwo?

Not to evoke recent politics here but the Corvair was an early victim of Fake News. By the time Nader's "facts" were proven false and the results released the Corvair had been voted off the showroom floor.

"Although Nader was proven wrong, according to the investigation performed by the National Highway Traffic Association, the damage to public perception was already done. After easily selling 200,000 units in each of the first six years of production, the Corvair only sold 14,000 by 1968. It was cancelled the next year."

Very true.  A college friend of mine, his dad collected Corvairs.....from 1965 to 1969 ONLY.  He agreed with Nader, the "Swing axle" design before that was a danger.  Funny, look under any old VW Bug......
