The Car versus Christine
« on: June 18, 2021, 03:47:59 PM »
Since a remake of Christine is topical and in the news presently, does anyone think maybe Stephen King stole his inspiration for "Christine" from the movie called "The Car?" Look at the respective dates of creation. 1977 versus 1983.

"The Car is a 1977 American horror film[2][3] directed by Elliot Silverstein and written by Michael Butler, Dennis Shryack and Lane Slate. The film stars James Brolin, Kathleen Lloyd, John Marley and Ronny Cox, along with real-life sisters Kim and Kyle Richards (as Brolin's daughters). It tells the story of an unmanned, self-driving mysterious car that goes on a murderous rampage, terrorizing the residents of a small town."

"Christine is a horror novel by American writer Stephen King, published in 1983. It tells the story of a car (a 1958 Plymouth Fury) apparently possessed by malevolent supernatural forces."
"Low she sits on five spoke wheels
Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

Statute of limitations probably ran a long time ago.

Intellectual property theft or not...

The difference, IMO, is that "Christine" was a pretty cool movie...and "The Car" pretty much sucked.

So like the AC Ace until Carroll Shelby came along.
