66 GT 350 carry over
« on: June 25, 2021, 12:22:47 PM »
What numbers constitute a carry over ?
My car has over ride traction bars, axle limiting cables, functional side scoops.

Is it a carry over ?

What is your cars' Shelby VIN ?

''66 GT350 with a VIN of 252 or below is a "Carry-over" , others will know more

maybe yes, maybe no

as mentioned SFM number needed, but override bars continued into 66 production for some time, I believe axle limit cables are part of over-ride modification and all 66 had functional side scoops.

purchase the 66 registry and get to know more about your car :)

+1. Cars 6S001 to 6S252 are the carryover cars. Some (not all) of the unique features found on a carryover continued into production beyond 6S252. However, those cars beyond 6S252 were not built on 1965 Mustang platforms; which is one of the defining factors of a carryover.

Hope this helps!
Nothing beats a classic!

I believe I heard a person once say that the 65 SFM number stamped is 5/16 a different size than the SFM number on a 66 which I think is 3/8? So if it’s a carryover it should have the 65 size stamping. Again I’m going on what an older gentleman told me at Fabulous Ford show, please Correct me if I’m wrong.

The only thing someone with limited Shelby knowledge on the subject needs to remember is the vin is going to be under 252. That gives  definitive confirmation one way or the other . The rest will just tend to confuse.

He may also be mixing that up with the door bolts. Carryovers being a 65 body used larger bolts to attach the doors to the hinges. 66 doors have plates in them using smaller bolts, the same size and thread as the fenders. I don't remember the thread size at the moment but 65  and 66 require different size bolts to attach to the hinge.
