How about a photo of your Cobra?  I've heard nothing but praise for the Avons, but I have never tried them.  Depending on how you intend to use your car, you may consider that because the Avons are so sticky I've heard that they tend to throw rocks/stones quite a bit so your bodywork and exhaust may take on some road rash.  For those who prefer to cruise to shows, cars and coffee, and have fun cruising the street with no intention of driving their cars aggressively on the track or at very high speeds there are few choices that work these days with 15" wheels.  I'm a fan of the Mickey Thompson S/T for such a thing as they have a classic tread design and minimal sidewall decor.

ITHERTZ were you able to find comparable tire sizing in the M/T's? Everything I saw was correct tread width wise, but if I remember correctly was taller significantly than either the Avon/Goodyear Eagles.

I haven't gotten around to posting pictures, in fact I haven't even uploaded any so far. But here's a video shot by the previous owner just before he sold it.

Car looks great and sounds great.  I love the black on black look.  Also like the no stripes (wish I had left them off of mine.)

Have fun and be safe!!

Totally - not a problem with finding the size you need with the M/T sportsman ST.  295/50r15 in the rear and 235/60r15 in the front, or even 245/60r15 and other sizes available, too.

There are several dozen (or more)  of CSX4000-CSX8000 series owners that belong to SAAC, dare I might say even hundreds. Do they all belong to, or actively participate, no, as they prefer their anonymity for various reasons.

As for the tires, having owned numerous Cobras (as ITHertz can attest to  ;) ) of various makes and models, I highly recommend the Avons, pricey, sure, but then again, you spent your hard earned money on a CSX4000, a little more to keep you and your loved ones safe, allo while enjoying a nice ride, and having the performance aspects to match that of the car and driver shouldn't be much of a stretch..

I'll leave it at that.

Bill

Thank you Bill for your insight on the Avon's and SAAC. I'm strongly leaning toward the Avon's for their handling, wear characteristics and being the proper height/width and sidewall sizing.

I believe the Cooper Cobra, Mickey Thompson and BFG's are the same tire carcass, made at one location with tread a sidewall script specific to that brand.

Very nice sd427, how do you like the harness bar vs. the stock mounting location?

I've been thinking about alternatives.  Functionally, it is nice, it works well, but I don't like the looks of it.  The passenger seat has the shoulder straps going through slots into the trunk, but the bar they attach to is not very hefty, I don't think it is a strong enough anchor.  Although, based on how high my shoulders are above the seat, it might not be good to have a lower mount, I don't think it is good to have the straps lower than my shoulders.

Like you, I like the idea of the harness bar, but the looks have kept me from wanting one.

My Kirkham has a similar bar and belts. I don't mind the looks, but that's a personal thing.

Wasn't there discussion on the old forum about the benefits of having the mounting point of shoulder straps be high, rather than bolting to the floor?

There is a recommended mounting position for the shoulder belts, the shoulder belts should be anchored level with the drivers shoulder height when seated in the vehicle. You could also anchor the belts lower and have the straps drape over a bar (roll bar) that is even with the drivers shoulders.

I have CSX 4322, the body is by Kirkham, engine is opened up to 510. The Billboards have been replaced with Avons, they're not as dramatic looking, but I was concerned about driving on the Billboards with over 600 HP.
