Ad description:
This 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350 was delivered new to Don Seelye Ford of Kalamazoo, Michigan with a 289ci V8 and an automatic transmission. Refurbishment prior to the seller's acquisition of the car in May 2014 included the installation of a Ford Racing 363ci stroker V8 and a five-speed manual transmission, along with a repaint in red over a refreshed black vinyl interior. Equipment consists of front disc brakes, a 9″ rear end with a limited-slip differential, Koni shocks, rear brake-cooling ducts, hood pins, racing-style lap belts, and a Sport Deck rear seat. The water pump, timing cover, fuel pump, distributor, carburetor, and clutch were replaced in 2020, and an original-style battery was installed in preparation for the sale. This GT350 is now offered with documents from Shelby American and the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC), Shelby literature, and a Shelby license-plate frame, along with manuals, service records, a spare carburetor, and a clean California title in the seller's name.

The body was refinished in red with white upper and rocker-panel stripes during previous ownership, and what is believed to be the original paint is said to show in the door jambs and in the trunk compartment. Exterior features include a steel-frame fiberglass hood with a functional scoop and hold-down pins, fixed rear quarter windows, and fiberglass brake-cooling ducts on the quarter panels. Close-up photos showing blemishes that include chips and nicks on the nose and along body-panel edges are provided in the gallery below.

Magnum 500–style 14″ wheels are finished in gray with black accents and wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires showing 2011 date codes. Disc brakes are installed at the front of the car, and suspension modifications include Koni Classic shocks and 520-lb/in springs.

The cabin features low-back front bucket seats and a fold-down Sport Deck rear seat upholstered in black vinyl with a matching dash pad, door panels, and carpeting. Additional equipment includes latch-and-link front lap belts and a radio-blanking plate. The glovebox door has been signed and numbered by Carroll Shelby.

A reproduction steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer flanked by gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and coolant temperature. A Cobra-branded tachometer with an adjustable redline set at 6,600 rpm is centered atop the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 17k miles, several hundred of which were added by the seller; true mileage is unknown.

The Ford Racing Z363 stroker V8 is a replacement crate engine based on a Boss 302ci block and is equipped with aluminum cylinder heads, an oversize Griffin radiator, and a 750cfm Holley four-barrel carburetor topped by an open-element chrome air cleaner with a 289 High Performance decal. Service in early 2020 included installation of an Edelbrock water pump, a replacement timing cover, a Carter fuel pump, a refurbished Hi-Po dual-point distributor, and a Pertronix Ignitor solid-state ignition. An original-style replacement battery was fitted in April 2021.

Gases exit by way of ceramic-coated headers from Ford Powertrain Applications (FPA) of Puyallup, Washington, flowing into a 2½" dual exhaust equipped with an H-pipe and Flowmaster mufflers. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Hurst-shifted Tremec five-speed manual transmission and a Ford 9″ rear end with a Traction-Lok differential. A rebuild of the transmission in March 2020 included the installation of a MacLeod RST twin-disc clutch and the replacement of the master cylinder and the throwout bearing.

A copy of the original April 1966 invoice from Shelby American shows—along with the car's color and equipment—that GT350 #6S1281 was billed to Don Seelye Ford of Kalamazoo, Michigan for $3,640. Also included in the sale are copies of 1966 shipping documents from Shelby American, additional Shelby literature, and a Carroll Shelby Motors license-plate frame, as well as serial-number verification letters from the SAAC and a carburetor. Service records that can be viewed in the gallery include an itemized list of work performed during a $14k service at Mustangs, Etc. of Van Nuys, California in early 2020 and a pre-purchase inspection performed at Galpin Auto Sports, also of Van Nuys, in April 2021.

The description explains that it was born as a auto but converted to a 5 speed. Is there another aspect that you are wondering about?

The pic above the driver's fender to door alignment jumped right out at me. Horrible. pass side isn't much better and the stripes are off? Must not matter to some as to why they are both off. It is weird to me they are both higher on the fender than the door? 120K it is at so NBD?

How people see it as condition. Looks like a good driver.

Yeah, and it looks like it is worth 50% more than the guy from Tony's SAAC Lounge was looking to spend.

LOL
That would make it 160K
I think it would be too much for that. I was thinking MAX 145K, with the amount of time left at 120K it just seems like its a lot now. I think it should finish at 135K as nice as it looks, there is lots of crookedness on the panel's , the engine, and the trans.

The previous owner (from 2014), apparently, from Spicewood, Tx., is trying to help the seller get the most value for it. Interesting commentary from some valid and known Shelby experts. Seems like a fun driver for anyone who doesn't mind the past history.
