CSX8000 Aluminum body question
« on: December 31, 2021, 11:03:02 PM »
Can I ask, who makes the aluminum bodies for the Shelby CSX8000 series?  Is it Kirkham, or someone else?

Thanks,

Brian

I believe Kirkham is still the main supplier for SAI's Aluminum body roadsters.

Hum! I thought so. Not to insult you 289 guys but I'd want that on a coil spring chassis like the COX/COB cars.

A nice 347 tucked in with either Webers or a 2x4?

Maybe. But I don't read them anymore. It seems they all have to do with Howard's peccadilloes. I don't even want to ask what THOSE are.

Kirkham will put the 289 body on a 427 coil spring chassis, that’s actually the cheapest route versus original style suspension.

I actually haven't seen any at all with that combination. There was that run of "anniversary" 289 FIA cars but they were leaf spring chassis.
I just happen to like the look of the FiA/USSRC cars with the cut back doors, flared fenders and small 289 nose.
That has to be a nice package on a coil spring chassis.

ERA will make one as well.

They only show leaf spring for the 289 & the Coupe. It's the same width and WB as the 427 so you could probably custom order it with coils. They'd probably have do use the wider 427 wheels.

Actually bronze or copper, they do not offer brass.

Kirkham refers to the 289 (FIA or street) bodied 427 chassis cars as “Hybrids”. They will also do the chassis in stainless steel.
