The guy stole the car and hit and killed a pedestrian with it and was wanted on a vehicular murder charge if I recall the story correctly.
Sam Prock who found it, I believe was a tow truck driver at the time and heard the story and the rumor that it was dumped off of a pier in the Hudson. Thought he new the spot, went diving and guess what he found?
There was something about the car being held as evidence by the Police for a while after it was recovered?
