Put on some Avon tires so you can get some kind of traction. I would highly suggest that you try to find a wider wheel that you can put hub caps on if you want a period look.

If it starts it's streetable.
Overkill is just enough.

I'd be going for that vintage sleeper street racer look.

Hey guys,

Just going over the details with the owner and he is not sure that the motor is matching numbers. I asked him about the casting number that looks like it might be an 8 and not a 3 and he is going to try to get a better look at it for clarification.

I'm not that concerned about the car not having the original block, but what I wouldn't want to find out later is that the block isn't a 427 block at all but actually a stroked 390 of some sort wit 427 hardware on top. Besides the casting number on the passenger side, what would you guys suggest we look for to ID the block? TIA

It should be a top oiler with 4 bolt mains. C3AE-6015-AB is the part number.

Here is a pic of a broken one with the HP markings  http://www.mustangtek.com/block/C3AE-6015-AB.html

There is no C8AE with a AB listed - The C8AE-A is a 427 side oiler. The photo on the Hemmings page looks to be the right engine block. Someone could figure out from the casting date if it's right for the car. There was probably a longer time from casting to installation of these engines since so few were sold.

That looks like a legit '63 427 to me. The '68 427 blocks in general typically don't have any casting number - none. If you see a C8AE-A block it is typically a 390, not a 427. Every now and then a '68 427 will have a C8AE or C8AE-A casting number. But it isn't a consistent or typical thing.

It's (the block casting number) meaningless in '68, unlike the '63 HP marked blocks, where the casting mark is a real tell - tale thing.

Build sheet? The 64 Galaxie 500XL I bought in high school had one like that, found it in the fender well IIRC...

Don't think so. This is the build sheet. Both were found under the front seat, I believe.

Believe it may be a buildsheet for the first half of production of the car at the car assembly plant - basically the same info and purpose as what was placed on buck tags when they were used at different plants and years. The second buildsheet was used in the second half of production like the large "full page" buildsheets we see used on 67-up Ford built cars

Congrats on the purchase, exciting.

If you need a shipper, I've used a broker many times.  He is a Mustang guy and I actually sold him a Fastback a few years back.
Contact Chris if you need a quote or help with the move.

You can tell him Mike in GA passed his info on.

Going to be using your guy. Now I just need to figure out the safest way to pay the guy.
