Auction description:

This 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350H was acquired by the seller in 1980 and was subsequently rotisserie refurbished in 1998 with work consisting of replacing the rear frame rail, rear quarter panel aprons, floor pan, trunk pan, and radiator support as well as repainting the body, rebuilding the engine and transmission, refreshing the suspension and brake system, and fitting the interior with replacement carpet and headliner. The car is finished in red with gold stripes and powered by a replacement 289ci V8 paired with a C-4 three-speed automatic transmission. Features include a Holley four-barrel carburetor, tri-Y headers, hood and side scoops, an R-style front apron, 14″ Magnum 500-style wheels, Koni shock absorbers, front disc brakes, latch-and-link harnesses, and a push-button AM radio. This GT350H is offered with SAAC registry documentation, manufacturer's literature, service records, and a clean Michigan title in the seller's name.

The GT350H was the result of a partnership between Ford and the Hertz car rental company, and this example is finished in red with gold stripes. The car was repainted in 1998 and features an R-style front apron, a chrome rear bumper, a hood scoop, quarter windows, a tinted windshield, side scoops, reverse lamps, and a dual-outlet exhaust that exits below the rear bumper. The rear quarter aprons, trunk pans, and floor pan were replaced during the refurbishment.

Chrome-finished 14″ Magnum 500 wheels wear Hertz "Sports Car Club" center caps and are mounted with 235/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The car is equipped with Koni shock absorbers, and braking is handled by unassisted front discs and rear drums. The proportioning valve was rebuilt and the master cylinder gasket and the rear brake cylinders were replaced in 2022.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a folding rear bench upholstered in black vinyl with textured inserts. A Ford-branded AM radio is mounted in the center of the dashboard along with a competition brake warning sticker. Additional equipment includes latch-and-link harnesses for both occupants and crank windows. The carpet and headliner were replaced during the refurbishment, and there is a split in a seam in the driver seat.

The three-spoke steering wheel wears a Cobra GT350 badge and frames a 140-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and battery voltage. A Shelby-branded tachometer is mounted on top of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles, approximately 2,500 miles have been added by the seller.

The replacement 289ci V8 breathes through a Holley four-barrel carburetor and features finned Cobra valve covers and tri-Y headers. The engine bay is fitted with an export brace and a crossbar. The engine was rebuilt by Dixon Performance Engineering in 1998 and an engine tune-up was performed in 2022. The battery has been relocated to the trunk and there is paint damage underneath the master cylinder from a brake fluid leak.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch rear axle. The transmission was rebuilt and the rear frame rail and fuel tank were replaced during the refurbishment.

A copy of the order sheet for Hertz Corporation indicates optional equipment and a total price of $3,788.

The Shelby serial number tag was replaced during previous ownership.

SOLD-  $129K with buyer fee. Excellent price for the seller considering it's past history.

Just me mind you, but IMHO, the selling price was generous given the modifications, non-original block, carb, transmission and lack of the original VIN tag.

You would need to have before photos to know if any of the real car is even there, a very close inspection would be required.

Interesting that one of the early photos posted in the auction shows a Mico master cylinder...

Lots of early photos were posted in the auction. Copying them, and magnifying the pictures, will show much of what you need to know. And, the honest seller talking about the replaced body parts, other flaws, and shown receipts for the reproduction parts. Some people don't care about past history. They are happy to drive and enjoy it as is.

Agreed.  The seller honestly presented the car.  It would seem that the current frenzy on BAT and other auction sites for things other than vehicles has resulted in inflated prices.  One can rationalize that, since the Dollar is worth less, it takes more of them to buy "stuff".  In more sane times, I doubt this car would've broken into six figures.
