The most original in the universe?
« on: June 12, 2022, 07:13:16 AM »

A mighty bold claim by Barrett-Jackson, and anytime something claimed remotely similiar, my senses first reaction is to claim BS. I see lots of white cad bolts under the hood which I'd think "maybe not", but '68s are not my forte'.

I'm very confused. What is "most original" ? Another uninformed writer claim? Perhaps something lost in translation...

It doesn't appear to be a claim Barrett Jackson made.

Regardless, there is a ways to go before that car is "correct" as it left the factory.

It's pretty and it's shiny, so I am confident it will do well at the auction. That seems to be what uninformed buyers gravitate toward.

It would not even be a SAAC Gold car if it were shown!

The cad bolts are fine in 1968, but there's a couple dozen other things that are not quite right.

 ;)

Excellent question.

Claiming it's the "most original in the universe". As noted from the members, its not. You even mentioned the quarter panel replacement, and It would not even be a SAAC Gold car if it were shown!

The cad bolts are fine in 1968, but there's a couple dozen other things that are not quite right.

Thats something some writer wrote. Its not a claim Barrett Jackson auctions made, there is nothing fraudulent about a writer's sensationalized opinion.

If I say someone else has the best car I have ever seen, there is no fraud. I may just be an  ignorant foolish person, if you could sue stupid people for dumb comments...

Well on dumb comments, I agree with you. However, when selling (car, home, motorcycle, etc) and making a 'claim' that is not true, is fraud. Its obvious this 1968 KR is not 'original'. I'm sure you would agree with that.

Rear quarters on a 68 either NOS or otherwise have no cutout for the marker lights?  It would seem so given the photo.  I genuinely don't know, hence the question.

The odds of finding a NOS fastback quarter are virtually nil. I have seen three in the last 40 years. They would have the correct holes and/or impressions.

Reproductions come in various degrees of quality. As does quality of workmanship by restorers. In this case drilling four small holes was not possible.
