15" Radial Tire Sizes on Cragars
« on: May 27, 2018, 08:26:28 AM »
What size radials are people running on their 15" Cragar 5 spokes?  I put some 205/70-15 tires on my car, trying to approximate the size/diameter of the blue dots, but they are too tall for my taste.

A 225-60-15 for sure but in most cases a 235-60-15 clears as well.

A 225-60-15 would be a better choice if you want a little more width.  I had 235-60-14's on my 10-Spokes and they rubbed during aggressive cornering.  They looked cool, but I replaced them with 225-60-14's.  If my 14 " tires with 235's rubbed, I think the 15's would as well.  Not sure if the wheel width is much different between Cragars and 10-Spokes.   My '66 is lowered 1".

On a 67 235 60 15 fit perfect on the rears lowered or not,on the front 225 60 15 fit nicely but if lowered fender lip must be rolled and then again your wheels must be centered and in the same position as original with no frame damage or there will be a rub! I cant speak for the early cars... :)

Parde says 235-60-15 should fit 65 fine. A '66 is close.

What you need to know here though is that realigning the front, particularly with more positive caster will give issues where there were none before.

Also lowering the car, changing the shocks or changing the spring rates, not to mention which wheels you are using and whether or not you have increased the track or decreased it.

It's close up there.

It's a sure bet that you will probably need to roll the front fender lips considering that there was a service bulletin on that when the cars were new. They sporadically showed rubbing issues then.

Not every car, but enough of them to require a TSB on the subject from Ford.

215/65R15 on all four corners.

On a carryover (with lowered front).

Here's a link where you can compare the measurements of the various tire sizes:

http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/tyre-wheel-calculators/tire-size-calculator-tire-dimensions

Do NOT click on the big, green "Start Now" button at the top of the page unless you're interested in a PDF converter. Instead, scroll down a little to the box where you can plug in a tire size and then "Calculate Tire dimensions." When you do this for a second tire size, you can click on the "Compare this tire" button to compare it to the first tire submitted... and so on.

@ $350+ each.  = the best $1,400 you can spend to improve your car's handling.
