Any 351-C experts able to help with identifying 4-V quench heads? The car I'm looking at has a 4 cast into the head next to the valve cover flange. I remember that there are two markings. One with just the 4 and another with a 4 and a dot casting. I thought the 4 with a dot are the quench heads for higher compression.

Can anyone confirm?

Thank you.

99.3 percent of the time the plain 4 is the closed chambered quench head. The 4 dot is the open chamber not the ones everybody wants. Good Luck on your purchase

Thank you! I checked with a friend that hs an M-code and his heads are marked with the 4 also. Appreciate our help

From the book - FORD 351 CLEVELAND ENGINES: HOW TO BUILD FOR MAX PERFORMANCE  PDF link - https://freepdf-books.com/ford-351-cleveland-engines-how-to-build-for-max-performance/

......."4" means a 4-barrel head with large ports. The dome indicates an open-chamber head. If there's no dome (indicated by a dot), you've found closed-chamber heads.......

Best way is to look at the combustion chamber as you can see there are no hard and fast rules - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X61TqyLb8gw

Even the blocks can get confusing. A lot of Aussie 2 bolt pillow blocks have been drilled for 4 bolts and passed off as NASCAR blocks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8ewp2FVn40

The Pantera Forum has a lot of 351C info.

Thanks for all the good info! The car I'm looking at appears to have the quench heads when the engine was changed, as it is a H-code.
