is this a/c compressor original to my KR?
« on: July 26, 2022, 06:27:36 AM »
I doubt that it is the original and it needs some work so thinking I may as well buy a new "york style" one. I've read what I can find on the forum and apparently the original castings have some differences to the replacements so wondering what I have. Likely it's not original but would hate to not use it if it is....can anyone tell from these pics?
Thank you.

Is there a id tag attached to it? Mine says C8ZX on it.

Originals have the Shelby C8ZX tag. It can be transferred to a replacement.

You can have the one on the car rebuilt. A modern replacement will look different.

It was not a transition . It is a MFG manufacturing difference. Also both styles had been used 65-70 Mustang depending on time period and plant. For example in 68 the Metuchen built Shelby came with the aluminum York where as Dearborn Mustangs used the iron Tecumseh .

What’s more important than compressor is it appears you have original BB clutch. Hard to find

The original donut electro magnet type clutch's that I have seen on Shelby's were typically plated zinc silver like the field coil originally.

I have seen that style of adjusting idler pulley, but it is definitely not common. Is that a Metuchen thing? or more likely aftermarket replacement?

That is the exact idler pulley mount that I have.

My research shows that the donut electro magnet style clutch is Pitts manufactured. Am not aware that they are serviced in the aftermarket.

Not much to go wrong with them.  Classic auto air or whatever they are calling themselves or rebuild division used to rebuild them but you had to ask special to have them plated zinc silver. They painted them black otherwise. I have had a few plated locally but it has been years. I have been lucky find finding NOS units.
