This race would provide much more anticipation & suspense for the story line without embellishment in my opinion.
I believe it's still the closest finish in Le Mans history.

title; Ford vs Porsche,  or   US vs Germany again ;D

JWA/Ford GT40 finished P1 & P3

You can have the Porsche.  I would take the Ford GT40 every time.    Definitely could make for another movie.  It is as much about the people as the cars...
"Low she sits on five spoke wheels
Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

Third place car got hacked up and used for the filming of LeMans. Restored now. Another Ford GT was used to film Grand Prix.

Painful to see.  But perhaps they just removed the clamshells and spared them for reinstallation when filming was done?

For Grand Prix yes but not for Lemans where they did the opposite by cutting off the roof. There are also photos of it with a camera pod on the rear deck probably housing a gyro stabilized camera for better shots.
Any GT40 diecast collector worth his salt will need to add the camera car one.

For all you film buffs, the top photo cameraman with his smaller and lighter Arriflex 2-C 35mm. Bottom photo shows the big, bulky Mitchell/Panavision.

Solid camera mounting. 'Gyros' were not in use during that era in moviemaking. IF you look close, you can see the Panavision cameras are sitting on a top plate, over the tripod 'head'.
