Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

Past owned Shelby's:
1968 GT-350--Gold
1970 GT-500--#3129--Grabber Orange.
Current lifelong projects:
1969 Mustang Fastback/FOX chassis, 5 speed, 4 wheel discs, with a modern Can-Am 494 (Boss 429), Kaase heads, intake with a 1425 cfm 'B' Autolite Inline carb, ala Trans-Am style
1968/70 Olds 442 W-30

98SVT - was 06GT

Is this the one that will look like slight face lift of the current car but sitting on an Explorer platform with a hybrid V6 as the "performance" option?

Ford has hinted this is the direction...
That said, the 2005 retro version was based on the Lincoln chassis.
I will say this (and don't whine/complain its not a Ford), the best bang for your buck 'performance' cars are used 2010-2013 SS Camaros, and Challengers.

Well sorta - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_D2C_platform

You can get a lot of cheap performance out of an Camaro - Lots of hop-up parts for the LS. Now if it would just turn corners. Which is the same problem with the Challengers that and needing an overhaul at 100,000 miles. So that gets us to Side-Oilers C6-C7 solution - LA Craigslist $20-70 grand 2005 C6 at the low end to 2017 Z06 at the top.
