Was sealant used on the threads? Or what was?
Top picture and one posted in reply#4 are the correct ones. Sometimes I could still see a sealant on the threads of survivor fittings. The Indian head shellac type sealant is what looks to be used. At least it gives the same appearance if not the same product.

So there were two types used?
You have typical and not typical .The longer one is not typical however I have seen them used.
