Lucky for Jay, it does not look too bad. Yes, he will go under some plastic surgery. Glad he will be ok.

+1.  As bad as it was to go through, he lucked out.  Fire on your face usually does not end well.

His incident (and thankfully his face was saved because I like Jay though I never met him), has wised me up to utilizing some form of face protection while working around a carburetor.  A plastic shield over the face is better than no shield.  Maybe also appropriate while doing my oil changes as well. At least it gives a short period of time to react and correct the situation which in such times of crisis could be critical time that makes all the difference.
