Can anyone tell me what exact carburetor was used on the R Models?

R-MODEL1965

Since no one else has chimed in I'll pass along some information I have been told. I cannot verify the accuracy of this info and  welcome any corrections. I have heard that most 1965 R-models used the 715 holley, however, a few people have mentioned that a 780 cfm holley (same as the 427 cobra) would be occasionally placed on an R-model and snuck through inspection as they are visually identical to the 715 (minus the stampings).

I read it was used on the 427 SC and the R Models ?
More so, a competition carb.
I have one.
It will be used as trade together with some other rare pieces in the future.
Things I will need for my early black 67 350.

Not sure of a definite answer to your question steve O.
Perhaps one of the more experienced & knowledgeable guru's can offer more ?

I almost think that the carb number above would work on a high point Invitational car ?

John, could that be a C5AF-BEA with a green tag ?

I transposed a list of numbers from other ford holley carbs while typing the post.
No, it has no green tag, just the small screw on alum tag;
correct numbers are; C5AF- BVA
Throat #'s are 9510-BV

Sorry for the confusion.
Merry Christmas
John

I have a friend that took 750 vacuum secondary Holleys and installed lemans bowls for that vintage C5-BV look.

I guess one would say the full mechanical advance plate is cool looking.
Bob, was its original purpose for the 427 SC and Or >>> full Comp car ?

R-model 65 pointed out that it, because of larger cfm and performance, was used with the 65 R competition car too ?
If not, what is the part number for the R model holley ?
Thanks
john

Yes in my friends case he was building CSX 4000 427SC spec Cobras . He wanted the look but didn't need the BV originality , price or availability. Out of the box the BV carb was not mechanical secondaries unless modified. Back in the day the BV carb sometimes found its way onto the R model. I don't think that 750/780 CFM is warranted on a SB unless typically track oriented driving and even then depending on variables it may be too much IMO.

Thanks Bob,
This one does have a plate mounted on the throttle plate.
Nothing that can not be removed though.
It does have a mechanical chock assembly.
