GT350 #1341 is on the road again!
« on: December 11, 2022, 07:29:48 PM »
This 67 GT350 1341 was sold by Tasca and my father is the 4th owner.  My father purchased this Shelby in the later 1980s showing 68K miles and it has been in storage up to  2017.  The car had very minor rust with extremely solid floors for the north east.   The 2nd owner bought this car in 1979 and prior owner had it in storage since mid 70s due to gas crunch.  The 2nd owner was housemates with Curt Vogt in Orange CT and around this time the start of the first Cobra Automotive castings, valve covers and oil pans were in the works.  In messaging with the 2nd owner Brett, he told me that he and Curt removed all the power steering to convert to a manual set up, lowered a-arms, installed Konis, true dual exhaust, headers and Hurst shifter.  Yes I had to source all the correct steering components, including steering column and steering box.  Here are some before, during restoration and current pics.

We got #1341 back home this weekend and it was a blast to drive for a few hours yesterday.

Some resto pics

Dave owner of Mustang Madness Motorsports did all the body work, paint and assembly.
We purchased quarter panels and fenders from Ford in 1990 after my father bought the Shelby.

My Father and I restored/detailed components or sent them out to be restored.
Mustang Madness Motorsports performed installation for all components on car.

Complete missing steering assembly was sourced from Chockostang and delivered as shown in pic.
We had an original power steering pump and we also sent that to Chockostang for rebuild.
I obtained a rebuilt date and part number correct steering box from Virginia Mustang.
I purchased a steering column and rebuilt it.  As the steering conversion to manual was to a quick ratio box with a rag joint thus the column was also changed out

Had to buy hoses with solid white stripe and paint on the red stripe as it has been noted in the forums that you cannot purchase reproduction heater hoses with a continuous red stripe.

I still have some decals to apply in the engine compartment.

We restored the 82-1388 and 82-1389 winged decal Konis that the second owner installed on the car and reinstalled them.

..and more

At the time of assembly of the suspension we went with reproduction control arms to keep things moving forward.

I have the original upper and lower control arms and I will eventually degrease and de-rust to determine if they are candiates for rebuild.

Exhaust system is made up of components from a few sources as going with the entire Scott Fuller system was getting pricey.
H-pipe and mid pipes are from Precision
Tail pipes and Chrome Tips are from Fuller
All clamps, brackets and hardware are from Fuller
Hi flow transverse muffler are from Waldron and it sounds fantastic!

The 5 original Magstars were restored by Paradise Wheel back in 1990.   They came out great, but upon opening the box this past summer I saw that the inserts were black as in pics.  Spring project is to repaint inserts gray.  Also plan on smoothing sidewalls on Avons CR6ZZ 225/60R15 and applying Goodyear raised white letters to sidewalls.

And some more

We were missing the dash pad and I was lucky to find an entire dashboard with an original dashpad intact on ebay.  The unit was stored in a garage for 30+ yrs!  ...best way to store a dashpad!
This original dashpad was dyed black.  Original door panels were repaired by Gene and Alan Painter.
All front and rear seat upholstery is original except for 2 side seat bolster sections replaced on drivers seat.
