I looked at this car back in 2017, along with a 67 GT500 that belonged to his ex wife (it was for sale).  Sorry to hear that the owner passed.  Interesting guy.  Had several Mustangs/Shelby's over the years.  I have a '69 Boss 302 that he owned in 1970 - 71.  The '68 was not for sale when I was there.  I may be wrong, but I do not think that this is actually the first 1968 Shelby built.  There were several others built before this one.  Maybe Pete can shed some light on this?  The 1967 GT500 had an interesting story, and I heard that it finally sold but I do not know where it went.

Ken:

I'm quite sure the cars built before this were prototypes.
Pete Disher and I have gone back and forth with this and we feel certain.
Unlike 67 # 1, I think Ford was a bit more organized than Shelby.

I'm openminded to hear differently though

I agree with Bret. There were some cars built before this car, but they were not immediately intended for sale to the public. They are listed as "engineering vehicles".

This is likely one of the very first cars built for retail sales

Some where some one is driving their collector car for the last time but they don't know it . Drive your car every time like it could be the last memory of it .
