Proper location for GT500KR stripe kit
« on: January 22, 2023, 11:44:01 PM »
Could somebody describe the proper location of the lower stripes near the rocker panel for the GT500KR. How far is it supposed to be above the rocker panel molding? Does the stripe continue under the wheel well molding and does it wrap around the ends of the door edges, fender edges and lower quarter edges into the door jamb? Any help would be awesome and thanks! Any tips on installation would be great as well.

I tried doing a search on this site and online but came up with nothing. I tried the coral snake but that information is no longer available it seems and I get a server error every time I try to access their index.

Here is a diagram from the 1997 SAAC Registry. The ends of the stripe wrap around the door edge and also around the quarter into the door jamb.

Many stripe kits contain installation instructions. Best practice is usually to first apply soapy water to the paint surface. This allows the stripe to be maneuvered into proper position. The soapy water is then driven out from beneath the stripe using a plastic squeegee, typically supplied with the kit.

Here is the page from the Branda catalog. Same illustrations are used - note similarity of the artwork. I believe these were originally drawn by Jeff Burgy for SAAC.

I have an unrestored KR with original strips. These photos basically confirm the instructions provided. While my strips don't go behind the wheel well trim I believe the intent is that they're trimmed tightly with no body color showing. Where the strips wrap at door edges/jamb they are trimmed where the quarter panel or door skin ends. In my case, the door skin is trimmed cleanly adjacent to the jamb but not so much at the front fender.
