The vice president of that new track is quoted in the article as saying, a Ferrari would never go out with an open wheeled car, Nor would , a Corvette, ever be out with a Miata.
………………
I would say that every track I’ve ever been to there is an open wheeled race car out there, which is at least as fast as the Ferrari that is out there. And I would say that every time there is a very quick Miata out there, there is certainly a Corvette. And to put things in perspective, I’m sure the open wheeled comment is “ speaking to” performance not safety.
But even if it is speaking to safety, I can say that every single time I’ve ever driven Watkins Glen, which is perhaps the cream of the crop in the United States, there are open wheeled race, cars out there with every other variety of car, and speeds which reach 170 mph plus on the back straight. And we have been out there with the Aston Martin team practicing amongst us. And the open wheel race cars are very careful and we are very careful of any open wheeled car.
And I don’t like MiataS either, but don’t ever assume they’re slow if one is driving a Corvette.
