I just don't know if any registrys exist on early K code cars and any help would be appreciated. I am looking at a 65 fastback K code and have some concerns. The vehicle VIN is 5F09K749605. I am having a difficult time determining if the block is original, and is a K code block.  Does anyone know of this car b the VIN or any history.  I did see that it went thru Mecum, but nothing since then.

That vin has several hits on google.  Neither the current listings or the 2012 Mecum auction info state that the engine is original to the car.  That would suggest to me that it isn't.  If original, that is typically highlighted given how important that is to many buyers.

All assy line installed K code mustang engines will have the vin stamped on the block on the right lower side of the block just above the oil pan, and the block assy date on the left front, i would check with the hipo mustang forum and search there for info.

And so will those with pedestrian 289 2bbl blocks installed by unscrupulous owners/restorers wanting to get a higher return.

You will never know if a block is original, they can be re-stamped and there are lots of 289's that would fit the date range for any given build date. You should be way more concerned if the body and body numbers are real, that's the car.

Kudo's to Fred for keeping track. It was pulled so many times that I stopped keeping count. I don't know if that makes it funny or sad? For those wondering a seller will typically pull a ebay listing before it is over so that a final price regardless if it meets a reserve or not so that it does not establish the final bid as market value.
