Just let go of a couple cars today. The 68 J code GT fastback had sat for 40 years in a garage. As it was  up on the transport trailer I remembered it had something you never see anymore. Studded snow tires! And Michelins no less!

The studs were illegal when I started driving in 1973 in Minnesota. I guess they were hard on the roads. Other states allowed them and probably still do.

When I got snow tires in 1970's Minnesota they were non - studded retreads. Any kind of old tire would work.

As I recall they tore up the pavement when young Hooligans would do burnouts with them!

and the studs would come out and go thru the fuel tank .
Some where some one is driving their collector car for the last time but they don't know it . Drive your car every time like it could be the last memory of it .

I remember, as a young tire toad, installing studs in snow tires.  Pretty tedious job.  Surprised I never put one in my finger.

With a front engine RWD car you needed all the traction you you get. Studded tires worked great especially on ice.

What are snow tires? This is SoCal after all....

Entering CA at Donner Pass you are required to have either studded snow tires or chains if there is snow / ice on the ground.
