Strange auto transmission filter

Ran across this on a 66 Mustang this afternoon. Can't say I've ever seen an inline filter for an automatic transmission. Looks like it has been on there for a long, long time.

Any experience with these?

I had a C6 rebuilt by a shop that insisted I install one of those right after the rebuild.  They wanted me to run it for a month or so.

I can assume a filter of some type, this one has been installed on that car for 20+ years. I've got to order a set of new lines to fix it.

A filter on the cooling lines is a good idea for 100 miles after a rebuild.

Is there such a thing as too many fluid filters?

Redundant, yes, but presuming they don't inhibit the flow volume, is there a fundamental problem with an additional oil filter(s)?

I suppose that additional potential leak sources are one thing to consider.

Ford rebuit units used to come with those type of filters .

I guess that if I were to put an inline filter in a cooling line, I would chose to put it near the transmission where I could hide the "ugly" of such in installation. Personally, I don't believe that at this point in the life of your transmission, that one of these filters is really beneficial.
