The 1962 Ford Cougar 406 was a concept car for the Thunderbird built by Dean Jeffries for Ford Motor Company. The futuristic build featured top hinged, electrically operated Mercedes 300 SL-type gull-wing doors, [1] and headlights that were concealed in the tips of the front fenders. The car had covers in front of the headlights that rotated down.[2] Power came from a 406 cubic inch V-8. The engine developed 405 horsepower and 448 pound feet of torque.

If that was supposed to be a forward-looking design to 1962 (and as a T-Bird to boot) Dean sure put a lot of mid-50s lines and touches on it.

According to some reference material I have the initial design sketch was created in 1954 by a J. R. Samsen and then built by Jeffries. The actual design of the Cougar concept doesn't look like Dean's work to me.

Car reportedly still exists and is owned by a collector in Canada somewhere.

Was this a real 67 Shelby and if so, is it still around?

Some stuff I have in my files, looks like it's still around, judging by what looks to be current photo. Also one or two vintage shots, it

had some adventures along the way  :o

If it weren't around you know who would find it before long.

I wonder when the photo in reply #3970 above was taken ? What about the security aspect, and possible damage to cars on an

open trailer, that wouldn't happen today.

Mind you back in the day that's how it was, here's an image of F1 cars at Watkins Glen in the 70's.

There was a Can-Am team 60's who the owner of said we would leave cars on open trailers in motel parking lots, and nothing

would go missing.
