...... not sure about the photo with Twiggy...

Before the Mustang the pop culture embraced the Mini. There are also shots of her with a Toyota 2000 but I think they are just promo shots.

The Cheetah

Who would have thunk?

Or as Jerry Titus named it - the Gyro. You never knew which way it would point.

To qoute Ralph Nader you thought that corvair was bad, that there Cheetah is beyond  " dangerous any speed "

They did!  I believe something like 1908-1912?  The "SEARS MOTOR BUGGY".   ;)

Not quite a Shelby, but perhaps "sporty" for its' time.   ::)

Sears Craftsman houses were nicely made "kits" with (according to what I've read) all of the pre-cut lumber you'll need to DIY.  The first semi-pre-fab house!

In SoCal, there are many 80-100 year-old neighborhoods with those style of houses.  My grandparents owned one. They bought and built it (with help) in 1920. Grandma lived there until her death in 1985. My dad and I painted it and did many repairs over the years. It was sturdy.

It had "full aspect lumber" as did most houses of the pre-war era. Meaning: The 2x4s actually measure as 2x4 inches. Not the smaller after-cut dimensions used in more recent decades.

The real estate agents out here refer to those houses generically as "Craftsman."  Like every nose-blowing bathroom tissue is a "Kleenex."

Exactly.  The Sears/Kaiser arrangement made a lot of sense. Kaiser had the steel to build the cars, and had halfway decent engineering (for a post-war cheap car) but not many dealers to sell them.  Sears had lots of retail stores, plus their enormous catalog business.

I think the thing that killed the car was marketing. The Sears name seemed weird on a car.

Perhaps if they'd kept Kaiser as the brand, and added "Sears Economy Special" or "Sears Guaranteed Special" as the model, it might have succeeded.

Of course, there's the darker side of the equation, whereby GM (and probably Ford and Chrysler) refused to buy Kaiser steel if Kaiser continued to make cars. Ol' Henry J. probably felt strong-armed, but gave in.  In the long run, supplying the steel for others to build their own cars, was a smarter place for the Kaiser company to be.
