Well, its not a 1968  ;D
Pete, I'm not too familiar with details, but what are the details that don't make it an actual 68? I seen the marker lights on the quarter and assumed a 68. The photo is somewhat blurry. Tell me what you see.

Pete has all the details, but basically that is a '67 Mustang mocked up to look like the upcoming '68 Shelbys. Print collateral and marketing materials had to be created before actual production began, so prototypes like this were created so that photographs could be taken.

Just for added context, I will post he entire ad. This is the left hand spread, that contained the Shelby.

and here is the right hand spread.

This appeared in a 1968 edition of Fortune magazine, an oversized business mag.

Correct, technically it is a 1967 Shelby dressed to look like the new 1968 Shelbys....

Ok, so still, what do you physically see that makes it a 67? that's what I meant, what is the tell-tell item that shows it's 67 status.

I'm not as up on ID of detail items as you guys are, I'm just learning. I seen the marker lights on the quarter panel and front fender and assumed it was a 68.

It isn't what is seen, it is what is documented. It is essentially a '67 "engineering car". I don't know the serial number. I'd have to ask Dave Mathews.

One of the outward signs that it is a '67 are those ten spoke wheels - those fit over the '67 disc brakes but would have not cleared the larger '68 discs.

Essentially all of the production '68s came with steel wheels and hubcaps, except a handful (3?) that were exported.

10 spokes fit 68s with a small modification. I never saw any paper work stating the issue but it is likely that it was Ford who didn't want to warranty that?

I'd like to know the story behind this photo. It looks like the bowling ball bag was the only survivor.

Good chance it was the results (what is left of the car) after the rescue or removal of the passengers and driver not what it looked like after the crash.  Have done similar on a number of  occasions. If you notice the picture is staged - doors nicely stacked up to the side, roof not in the picture, indication the car may have been pretty rusty in areas

If this is a result of an impact or car wreck  the possible age of the picture may suggest that it was taken before fire departments started using tools like the Hurst "Jaws of Life"  In some locals in those days guys would connect wreckers to panels and parts and ripe the car apart on scene ::)  Not something I ever took part of
