I think all three of those Corvettes in the photo, I believe there was another ?  are Z06 cars which had Rochester fuel injection.

shelbydoug, I'm not sure if those steelies were made from unobtanium ? the finned aluminium wheels were porous and leaked. The steelies might have been wider, and most likely stronger, better for racing ? I'm no expert on these matters  ???
The blue and white car was driven by Dave MacDonald.

I wouldn't be shocked to find they were aluminum and painted though? Factory cheating was at a height back then.
I'm not sure it would be practical to make them from magnesium but I don't think magnesium was banned from racing at that point yet?

Steel wheels Doug. John Timannus (rip) was an SCCA guy that  had a magnet in his pocket at all times . LOL The wheels were stamped and aluminum would have failed.

I read somewhere that the cars were picked up at the factory, and broken in  by being driven to California !

I'm sure this has been noted here before, here's the link to the Dave MacDonald site where I read about the Corvettes, with Cobra stuff as well.

Yes, I remember reading that too.  Also there was a story that they GM) gave Dave a Corvette and he had to get rid of it when he started to drive the Shelby's.

Love this picture of the NY Worlds Fair 1965.

Considering the state of car design in 1964, people had to take one look at the Mustangs and had their minds blown.

And they cared about cars back then!

I wonder how long it took that one Cobra to take the lead in front of those 'Vettes.
