I was there in 2016 to watch the Ford GT race.  It was fairly crowded then.  They allowed us onto the track and some were basking on the sloped banks.  Kinda surreal coming off the plane from winter in Chicago.  Daytona was great.  The city left a very favorable impression.

99% of the spectators stay on the infield side of the road course, lots of campers/RV's. A few prefer the grandstand area. Big time influx of people overnight and in the am.
