The Corvette and a silver Ford Mustang were believed to have been racing westbound on the highway when the Mustang cut off the Corvette, causing the Corvette to swerve and strike another car, troopers told the newspaper.

Intense to say the least.  Vette driver survived.
"Low she sits on five spoke wheels
Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

Excellent question.  Does one survive if one is brain dead?  I would say that the most technical definition of survival is if the heart remains pumping.  In an existential sense, one does not survive if one becomes brain dead and is on life support.  The driver was apparently launched one hundred feet into the air according to one witness.  I would take that to mean more like 50 feet and you will have an accurate estimate.
