Does anyone here know anything about art or artist?

If so, do you know who's this signature is?  I found this piece of art at a flea market and thought it was super cool and also signed.

It needs a good pro cleaning though.

Feel free to chime in ;D

I am into French impressionist artwork.

It is the only thing about France, besides fries, that I like.

I don't know enough to help you tho. Maybe Phillip can chime in.

Illustration/commercial art is more my area, so besides the really, really well know fine artists I'm not much help.

The obvious thing to do is Google the artist's name and see if you can come up with anything. It may take a little sleuthing on your part.

To me, it has sort of a '70s or '80s era look to it - probably is "commercial" in that it was done quickly with a mass market in mind?

Just a guess on my part.

I love, love, love any original art - and if the price was right, I say absolutely go for it.

Good luck and let us know what you find out!

Post a pic of the backside. It would in most cases tell us what timeperiod this is from.

Looks like the signatur is Harnett?

Thought I'd post photos outside in natural light of different areas.

The front, the signature, the back of canvas and corner and side with staples.

Yea, it looks like Harnett. I googled and there are two that I found. William Harnett and Robert Harnett.  The sig looks similar to William Harnett, but not sure.

Anyone??

Two more photos.

Last one is a close up of canvas.

All the good art is signed - Peter Brock, Bill Neale or Tom Honeger.  :)

William Harnetts signature is different.

See http://signetart.com/artist/harnett-william-michael/

Backside indicate a much more modern painter, non profesionell.

A pro do not mount the canvas like that.

I would agree with JohnB -

Looks like a prefab frame - we were taught to build our frames and stretch our own canvas's in art school.

But- as in old cars, a previous owner could have re-stretched it.
