I would like to add some additional details to my original post.

I have, what I believe to be, the original engine from 6S2328. It is now installed in my car, 6S1291. The original engine from 1291 is on a stand in my garage. I have verified, through Mr. Pardee, that the Ford and Shelby VINs for for both cars correspond correctly to one another. Looking at the history of both cars in the latest registry makes the engine swap somewhat possible, geographically anyway, I believe. I am happy to just leave things as they are. The car is a nice driver, not a show car. However, if the current owner of 2328 is interested in reuniting the engine with the car, I would be willing to talk about it. I just thought that I should get this information out there in case someone on this forum had any knowledge or information regarding 2328's present owner or whereabouts. Some information that I received states that the car could now be in the Netherlands, but I haven't been able to gather anything further.

I have always wondered how a cars engine could be separated from it if the car was running and driving.  I guess back in the day, one was pulled out when it was tired and instead of rebuilding it, swapped for a new one then sold years later after the car was long gone.  It is great that you are trying to marry the two back again, I hope they reach out.

Yes, I often wonder the same thing as well.

Apparently, according to the fellow that I bought the car from, 1291's original engine was removed at some point by David Grant to preserve it while he was driving the car. He replaced it with the engine that bears the Ford VIN on the block from 2328 that he had purchased at some point. He owned the car from 1988-2011 and was quite a collector of Shelbys and Ford parts. It seems believable to me anyway.

Great thing you are doing for BOTH cars.  I was lucky enough to help reunite the block to a carryover a few years ago with Howard's help.  It's funny how there have been articles written about how 'rare' a situation it is to return a long lost engine with it's original Shelby.  But with my limited experience in this hobby, I've seen it happen at least 5 times in 4 years.  God bless SAAC and the internet.

Having been thru this exact situation myself a few years back ,you never know what to expect. I owned an early 66 that I pulled an engine out of to install a more potent Boss 302 in the late 70s early 80s and slid the engine under a workbench for decades. After gathering dust for approx. 20 years I decided to sell it at what I felt was fair market value, offered it up here to the owner at the time and he didnt feel it was worth it. If he still owns it maybe he has changed his opinion on the matter... Maybe not? :-[

Some owners don't care about vin stamped parts. I had a 67 GT500 trans once and the current owner could care less. We didn't even get to a point to discuss price.

i guess the currently owner of the car 6S2328, our customer, would very interested to get the origin engine. But we are in germany ;-)
