My replica 289 Roadster
« on: November 13, 2018, 07:24:59 PM »
I posted a thread about my 289 replica about 5 or 6 years ago but was lost in the great meltdown  :-\
A little history, This is my tribute to csx2367. I've loved this car since I first saw it cruising around No New Jersey. It was owned by Joe Angeleri who had been the original buyer. Joe owned 2367 for I believe 46 yrs. Its' presently owned by Dave Wathen. I built this myself using a Factory Five chassis and the body was made by Mr. Bruce (Bruce Chervenack). I fabricated all the aluminum sub structure, engine compartment, interior dash and glove box. The glove box door was a challenge but I'm pleased with the way it came out. And Oh yes, the trunk. I tried to replicate as closely as possible with what I had to work with. The motor is a 1965 289 HiPo, (I love the sound of solid lifters, almost erotic) with an original 289 Cobra dual quad set up. Carter carbs, 3258s and 3259s. It has a five speed Tremec and a straight axle 3:55 trac loc rear. Here are some pics.

Very nice...beautiful color....

My only suggestion, lose the BFG raised white letters.  Either go with a correct looking Michelin or those would look better turned around/black walls.  The car will look much richer.

What is the back story on fabricating the trunk (boot as the Brits say)? And the glove box?
Great looking car, well done sir!

WhiteWalls... Seems a number of street 289's had them new.  ( I think they were part of one of the Option packages - others will know better)

Great looking.  Goodyear should be embarrassed that they left the 14" & 15" tire market behind for the restorers and 60's cars.

CSX2367 was delivered new with whitewall Goodyears with the whitewalls turned inside, on painted wheels.  Like many street 289 Cobras. Within a few weeks of delivery Joe had acquired Dunlop chrome wire wheels and used those most of the time.  I have original documents for that, and of course the Highlander Green “Lincoln” paint.  So I have both sets of wheels/tires and I switch back and forth.  CSX2367 has won two SAAC Premiere awards, once with Joe A and then at Watkins Glen after I had gone thru the cosmetics after acquiring the car.  So of course the painted wheels/inside whitewalls are required for SAAC shows.    Dave
