What are the best jack points under the car when putting on a lift please, and do they differ from the scissor or floor jack points ?

Thanks in advance.

I can tell you this.  Using the boxed section that goes up into the engine compartment (next to the transmission) will, if it hasn't already, bend up, eventually.
My car is "in the bubble" right now but look in the owners manual.  I think it shows the "per Fomoco" preferred jack points.   And, I believe the prefered points are along the pinch weld.  Even better to assist in this is a 6 inch long 2 X 4 with a 1/2" groove sawed through it  wide enough to hug the pinch weld area drop off to save the paint.  Look along the pinch weld for the small rectangle area front and rear.
One area that seems OK is the boxed sectionnext to where the rear springs bolt in, towards the front.
I don't know about the rest of you but, using a floor jack under the rear axle works, as does  the metal brace that goes under the oil pan.

^^^ good info there, care needed if jacking on the front cross brace.

+1 on jacking on the cross brace that can be a spot where it could slip off of so car should be taken.  So to expand on the topic a little.  Yes the rear diff is a good spot on the rear.  In the front the pinch welds were good when using a the original jack but now we are all using floor jacks and there is a chance of folding the pinch weld because the jack head is larger than the notch and it contacts the "tall" part.  They do make adapters for floor jacks to jack on pinch weld to spread the load but I have never used.  I mainly jack on the lower control arm shock tower point with a good rubber jack pad and have never had a problem.  In my opinion another don't do is further out on lower control arm against the tabs.  They will bend or the control arm will slip and ruin your day.

The reason I ask is,  I am having the bias ply Sppedways removed from my GT350 next Friday and I know the tire shop will be using the lift. They will ask about jack points and I want to be able to give them accurate info, so any assistance is appreciated.

I will look in the owners manual..... any other advise ?

Thanks again,

Prothane makes floor jack pads and jack stands pads. The floor jack pad does not have a groove cut into it if that is a concern, the old (and cheapest) method was to take a hockey puck and cut a groove in it to fit the pinch weld.

Depending on the lift at the shop the front sub-frame just before it turn up with a rubber pad is one suggestion.  The lower arms out near the ball joint is another.

For the rear, as suggested already, at the front of the rear spring attachment point again with a rubber pad insulator.

There are pinch weld jack pads available, some options in the link below. Note some are "better" than others choose carefully if you go this route.

It is a rare instance when anyone, other than myself, drives my Shelby.  So, have you ever thought of just loading up the current rims/tires and dropping off just those at the tire shop?

oldcanuck

Yes I have thought about just taking the wheels and tires 2 at a time.....

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info.

Here are the slotted jack pads for used with a floor jack and the pinch weld. These are reasonable and work well.  I bought a pair.

Take 'em in off the car and bring them in to the shop.  Why take the risk of something weird happening.  That is also what I would do.
