We just bought a one owner car all original down to the exhaust etc.
Just be careful as the “cats” will at some point fail and they will go red hot and you could have a major  fire hazard. If you let it sit and idle etc or drive it same thing. Just keep an eye on it if it has original 3 decade exhaust on there.

Ford had a recall on the cats (at least for my 1988 LX 5.0 convertible). They replaced the entire exhaust system.
Don't know if that is was for the same issue as Biggie is describing, but it would be worth looking for on any low mile original car.

It's not an '85-93, but...

I own an '83 GT that I built up, back in the day, as a project car for Popular Hot Rodding Magazine.

Mods to: Engine, suspension, wheels/tires, interior.  Runs and sounds great.  Typical fluid drips for 36-year-old car.

5-speed with 3.73 Traction Lok.

Red with black interior. Scheel seats. Roll bar.

Original paint and trim showing wear. No accidents. Body is as straight as Ford made it.

No rust. SoCal and Las Vegas car its entire life.

Original window sticker, build sheet and more.  Vintage CA license plate "PHR MAG".

Fun time-capsule magazine cover car with TV history too.  56k miles.

I will be posting a separate For Sale listing in the near future.  In the meantime, please PM me if interested.  I have tons of pix and info.

Yep, with Cam Benty (Camaro) and the late Pete Pesterre (Shelby).

The youngest staff of any car magazine, back in the day.  I think we were 26, 25 and 23.

Fun times!

If I remember correctly back in the day the LX was the one to have because it was lighter than a GT with the same drivetrain & suspension.

Yes, that was the word.  But, IMO, you gave up a little bit in the looks dept.

I am a little late to the party, sold a 1986 GT HO 5.0 CAPRI 5 SPEED not too long ago. I thought I had the proverbial gold nugget... I was wrong, I couldn't give it away. So it gave its life to start another car I was working on at the time. Guy that bought it was going to swap in a LS 3 550 HP engine and have some fun. Who am I to judge...  Will keep my eyes peeled for what your looking for.

Are you looking for a LX hatch or notch?

Convertible? My brother had 1988 GT conv. up until about 6 months ago. He sold it to a dealer in MN I think. He special ordered it new. It had about 10K miles on it. The only thing that had ever been changed besides the oil, filter and antifreeze was he changed the ring and pinion to 3.55's as the stupid salesman told him that they were standard equipment. Red/Titanium, White top, white leather interior, 5 speed manual. If interested I could find out who he sold it to.

There was areal clean '93 in Bring A Trailer recently. If memory serves me, only 30,000 miles.

I wouldn't suggest a convertible, unless one particularly wants a convertible!  This unit-body construction didn't lend it's self to the endeavor well, and proves to be somewhat shaky at times.       ;)
