Ebay Paypal
« on: September 11, 2019, 07:20:18 PM »
I haven't sold anything on eBay in a while, but noticed the fees have increased sustainably

I think you are required to use Paypal

Is it my memory loss, I don't recall Paypal charging fees ?

These people are raking cash

I figure it at 13% total fees between eBay and Paypal. Ebay calculates fees on shipping costs too. It is their way of encouraging sellers to offer 'free shipping'.

I had it figured a roughly 13% as well when you add all of the fees.   I think the percentage goes down the more you sell and the more positive selling feedback you get.  I think one would have to push a lot of volume to really make much of a living.  Not as easy as it looks.

10-13% may seem like a lot, but it's a worldwide audience.  Fixed price items are free to list and will stay on as long as one wants.  Set the price to 10-15% over what the absolute minimum is needed.  If the item doesn't move, then lower over time.

Ebay gives a small discount on shipping, so that helps a little.

Ebay's management wrecked the whole thing long ago.  All in the name of "progress......."

You can ask for payment using friends and family, no fee on PayPal side. Just don’t post that in your auction.

Friends and family has no protection for the buyer. I run if a person on fleabay wants me to do that. Its a different story on here if asked for that because I trust people on here, I would think if a person got ripped off then a post about who ripped someone off would send a warning signal. If you pay using PP and do F&F, on fleabay, if you never receive the item, you are screwed.

Paypal protection is a joke. I lost several hundred and contacted paypal who gave me everything in the sellers account. Which was .08. So the limit of their guarantee is only what is in the sellers account

Also when you list on ebay your auction features other folks auctions with similar items listed on your auction!!

+1.
Yes ebay usually gives me a pretty good shipping discount. Last time I sold something I got a 12% discount on shipping.

^^^  I agree as the shipping discount certainly helps to somewhat offset the other fees.  Being a "top rated seller" also entitles you to some additional fee discounts.
