What will The Bullitt Mustang sell for?
« on: October 01, 2019, 03:49:37 PM »
I know it is not a Shelby but most certainly is one of the coolest Mustangs ever.  So the Bullitt "hero" fastback is going up for auction at Mecum in January.  What do you think it hammer for?

Surely at least 7 figures, might bring out some Hollywood buyers...

I am saying $8 million. Depending of course who are among the bidders.

It will go for "a lot", but the exact number could be about anything.

I'm wondering if the car is already suffering a bit from over-exposure.  The thrill may be diminished by all the public showings (that were designed to hype interest/price.)

I'm not tired of the car, but once you've seen and read about it a gazillion times in the past year, it's no longer anything that I rush to see coverage of.

Other thoughts?
Current:
2006 FGT. Tungsten. Whipple, HRE 20s, Ohlin coil-overs, 3.90 gears. 210.7 mph.

Kirkham Cobra. 482-inch aluminum side-oiler. Tremec 5-spd.

Formerly:
1968 GT500KR #2575 (1982-2022)
1970 Ranchero GT 429
1969 LTD Country Squire 429
1963 T-Bird Sport Roadster
1957 T-Bird E-model 3-spd stick

It's a Holy Grail piece that someone out there has coveted for decades and now has the money to buy.

That is 250 GT SWB territory.

It might break 7 figures, but I doubt much more than that.

Maybe. It is so hard to know. Depends who is in the audience.

Its very interesting, I think what may take a little wind out of the sail is that its not the only Bullitt  car.  The new owner is going to have one of two,..A little different that one of one, the only one. Still the most iconic Mustang in history in my opinion.  When the smoke clears I wouldn't be shocked if its around 2 mil.

The Volo Auto Museum offered $1 million to find James Dean's wrecked 550 Porsche Spyder. Now that's junk.

Don't believe IMHO you can compare the two cars. But all it takes is one potential owner for either of them to take price further than anyone would suspect or recommend
