98SVT thanks for your reply on the '66 Riverside event.

Rich, thanks for the photo of the Cobras on the boat, have seen it before, but only now did I notice the fourth car on the left  ::)

Coming back to my post # 162 here ,  that can't be Daytona, it wasn't till the third race in '67, Green Valley Texas, that the

Cougars had what I call Americans ? or were they Torque Thrusts ?  for wheels, could those shots be at Riverside ?

162 not Riverside. They had Union 76 fuel not Pure. That's a speedway track with those giant grandstands. Those wheels are Torque Thrust D. The curved outer ends of the spokes make them D - to clear "D"isc brake calipers. They probably had 4 sets of wheels per car - maybe even more since most of the TA races were 2-6 hour events.

Mike,
I believe the Cougar photos in your post #162 are at Daytona. That was the first race of the '67 TA season.
The Trans Am series didn't race at any other large speedways. To me, the grandstands look the same.
'98SVT' mentions the 'PURE' gas sign, Daytona did have them in '67. Hope this helps.

Looks like CSX2323, given the oil cooler scoop and darker nose stripe that you can just see on the front fender. Probably just arriving in Italy after being completed by Mark Popov at SAI.

Here's one more photo of the Cobra getting loaded on (or off) the plane for Targa Florio.
CSX2323; looks like that's right.

Rich, thanks for your list of Trans-Am races in 1967 above, I finally figured out that the photos in post 162 are at the 1st. Paul

Revere 250, July 4th. 1967, I was thrown off by the wheels on the Cougars, knowing that at Daytona they ran on steel wheels, and

Mag  Stars (is that what they are called ?) were they strengthened ? I didn't think they would stand up to the stresses of racing ?

There were no Trans Am races from June 11th till August 6th. 1967, I wonder why Moore decided to run this race ? was the prize

money good, or was  it because it was the first event in what would become another series for these cars. The Cougars finished

first and sixth. A lot of other Trans Am regulars  also ran that race.

Rich, you said that photos of the Ford GTs at Monza are rare, you might already know these ? here's a couple of photos of GT/103

at Monza in 1965, the colour shot of GT/103 and CSX2602 is from a book "1000k of Monza" in Italian and English, the b&w image

of GT/103 is from a French forum I frequent.

Nice find Mike, the B&W photo of the GT/103 is not one that I've seen before.
Daytona Coupes photos are tough. Finding any rear views with the license plates is going to be a tall order.

Any one know the story behind these shots ? Phil Hill with Cobra, I believe this to be Candlestick Park, '65. In one photo you can

see a '65 GT350 and Shelby Ford pick-up in the distance. Looks like it says S&C Motors on the rear fender.

Candlestick.  Phil Hill drove the 427 in A-Production and led the race until the car broke.  He was hounded by the winning 904 Porsche driven by Don Wester.  SAI had two GT350's entered in B-Production, driven by Leslie and ? (Titus).  One of the 350's won the class.  S&C and Hayward were the two biggest Shelby dealers in NorCal.  Tragic weekend as two drivers perished.
