Drew, fixed my carb on my drag pack car that one of the restorers we are talking about seemed have missed when he restored. I think He is being professional right now and not commenting  on the issue I had as he knows who did my carb.  ;)    Drew was is fast and fair with great communication..

Lol, Chris, as a policy I do not talk badly about any other builder.
We are all human and overlook things.

Btw, when doing inventory last week I found a GTI choke cap. If you have not found a replacement elsewhere, drop me a line and I’ll send it to you when I get home in March.

A friend last night was telling me about a guy he knows who has started doing carbs again. He retired from Holley. He has done a few carbs for him for a 63.5 Galaxie Kosin Auto parts NASCAR stocker that my friend is helping a Widow with. Hopefully I will get my 69 M-code 735  carb done and see how it comes out. He also dyes them. If/when it is done i'll report back. Gary

Drew- That's a class act response. There is enough room for everyone to play in our sandbox if they so choose. Slinging fecal matter about never helped anyone or anything. There are a handful of you guys that restore vintage stuff, and there are a handful of guys that can ring out every last fraction of horsepower with newer carb technology. Most know where to look for these guys, if not they can come here and make their choices on where to go for their individual needs. Thanks for your contributions to this great Hobby.!  ;)

My Drew restored/blueprinted carbs;

Looks great, Michael! And, man - you’re super organized with the drawers in the background. I’m feeling quite “Shade Tree” right now. 😉
Nothing beats a classic!

That is because the picture is from my shop where I probably have 100,000 holley pieces in 10 of those bins.
Btw, the bins are an akro mills product, best deal is via Zoro, $50 each and free shipping. Very nice way to organize. Better picture with the intake setups.

Drew organized?  Not a chance!  ;D Thank you again for sorting out my BJ-BK's that were AFU!

One of my favorites.
An old established company did this.

Stock jets are 66.  They had a 74 on one side, other side wasn’t drilled, only had a .024 pilot hole.
The saddest part is they did a lot of drilling in the metering block on a pair of bk/bj Gt500 carbs. Very hard to plug .026 holes. Had to drill and tap with mini set screws to return to stock calibration... but original parts are forever altered.

WTF? Why?

The small jet?  Just an oversight. Slow down and inspect each part.
The large jets, extra bleed holes, etc?  Arrogance. Thinking you know better than the engineers in 1963.
I’m smart enough to know that I’m not that smart lol.
Very few factory carbs need much massaging, if so it is very very small changes. Stock BJ/BK’s really only benefit from changing the pump nozzle from .021 to .025, and if a massive radical engine, maybe enlarge IFR from .026 to .028

Drew: It was the IFR that was two different sizes on my carb, correct?

Idle air bleed.

Stock for 550cfm carbs like yours should be.070
Your secondary carb had .070, the primary had .061 on one side and .070 on the other. Would have made tuning impossible.
If mixture screws were set properly at idle you would have had trouble at light throttle, like idling around a parking lot or slowly taking off from a stop light. Probably would have bucked, or shuddered as it swung lean/rich/lean. Just guessing tho.
