Up For Auction / Re: 4155 - Moving to a New Owner
July 03, 2020, 02:08:26 PM
Wow!  Gorgeous car.  Congratulations on your restoration achievement
and soon to be a very fortunate new owner!  Are you going with another 68?
I always thought a 68.5 CJ would be a nice project car.

Now that we are rewriting our history,  let me attempt to write the history on this car...

1) Seller is turned in and has remorse for his actions (purely fiction at this point!)
2) Buyer owns a rusted out six cylinder fastback, millermatic welder and enough skill to weld the pieces back together.   Voila!, Rare and highly optioned S code fastback on the block for 85k.
3) New owner constantly trying to figure out why his prized 67 has mismatched numbers, rattles abound, and history that ended 20 years ago.

Not mine of course.  Too bad the owner did not keep the car.  Special paint, loaded with options.
My guess would be a silver color with the "red paint stripe" option.

Looks like a great platform for a restoration - California car.  Factory 76B, Silver Frost with deluxe red pony.  Nice!
However, hard to justify the 39K asking price.

Here are some pics and discussion that we had back in March of 2019 on the green bulbs.

That is what I like about this forum.  In 50+ years there is not much on these cars that has not been repaired, replaced, reworked, rerouted or beat into submission!
I drove the car for about 100 miles the last two weeks and the performance of the motor and carbs were incredible.   My first big block experience and man was it fun!

I knew that the carbs needed attention so gladly dropped them off yesterday for rebuild.  Can't wait to get them back on.

Thanks for all your input.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Carburetor Question
June 02, 2020, 12:37:51 PM
Hey Guys.

I am running a 67 date 427 Side Oiler - MR in my 67 Shelby GT500.   The carburetors are date matched C5AF-9510-BD/BC.  The primary carburetor has a provision for a choke plate, but does not have one installed.  The BC does not have one and is correct from the factory.

Is there an application (67 R code Fairlane or Cobra)  that did not use a choke plate on the primary or has this carb been modified?   What about the primary for the Shelby application BJ/BK. Does it have a choke plate?

Sending the carbs out for complete rebuild and want to know if I should have the choke plate added?

Thanks

Ron

I went with FPA and MagnFlow 2.5 w/Tru-X.   However, I did not like how the exhaust system hung with the Tru-X, so removed it.
Had to add some 304 stainless and had the system TIG welded.   Looks good, tucks nice and sounds great.

Took the wife out on Friday.  Of course, she wanted to drive ...
Took my daughter out on Saturday and she wanted to drive.
My brother-in-law on Sunday.  I drove!   LoL!

No wiper blades or window trim installed, but it is running great!

Nicely done Ruben!  I like the stories with your girls and their excitement to make new memories with their Dad and a 50+ year old car.   That is fun!
When I get mine road worthy, I will pick up my son in Austin and join you guys for more fun!

Reply for Greg "I noticed the car is an automatic, are you running a stock converter?"

Yes and No.   Yes in that it was a stock c6 converter.  No in that it was completely rebuilt for 2500 stall.

Thanks for the feedback and comments everyone.  I appreciate it very much!

The exhaust trim is original as far as I can tell and was on the car when I purchased it.

Info on the cam.  Nothing too radical ...

Thanks guys.  Yes,  I am proud!  Even in 78 when it was run last, it had a small block.  The original engine was replaced with a small block in 1973.
And then in 78 the small block blew up and that was the last time it was on the road.  I purchased it in 2015 and began the restoration then.

Great to hear it running after so long.  Exhaust still needs to be completed.
